Fat Cat Initiative

Yesterday, Swiss voters chose to back tough curbs on unreasonable exec payouts. From now on, shareholders will have a veto right over salaries and bonuses at top Swiss companies. Dachshund Daddy asked Swiss dogs to give us more insight about what has been dubbed as the "fat cat initiative".

"We're sick of top execs getting a bonus both when they do well and when they screw up," explains Margaret.

Trimmis agrees with Margaret and the majority of Swiss voters. "Look at the big Swiss banks, like UBS and Credit Suisse. When their execs really mess up, like in 2008, the banks get bailed out by the Government, and the execs still get their crazy bonuses. It's time for common sense to prevail."

"We believe in capitalism and the free market and all that, but when the head honcho of a pharmaceutical company is offered over $75 million to step down and NOT work for the competition, how's that a free market?," FURther explains Gerald, formerly the CEO of a FURtune 500 company.

Dear Readers, what do YOU think?

  4. We see the top execs get HUGE bonuses for doing nothing while the little guy who does all the work gets NOTHING at all....not even a thank you most of the time.

  6. Well, I wish I was a CEO. Even without crazy bonuses they make more than I make in several years. When the government bailed out banks here in the US, many execs still got bonuses too. Just wrong.

  7. I totally agree...Imagine if us dogs always got a treat if we did what we were told to do and then get a treat when we finished off your favorite pillow! You'd get a crazy dog that no one would like very much. Common sense needs to prevail.

  8. Viva Suise! But how come no one's interviewing a pit bull or a doberman or that dude guarding the gates of hell ...ah yes Cerberus! Some of these U.S. banksters need some serious cuddling by a three headed Dog.

  9. I think it's time we let dogs administer the planet and F500 companies because we humans have obviously screwed up. Besides, their bonuses will be in the form of bones and everyone knows you can get a big marrow for just 2 bucks.

This post reminds me of that old saying... "Scum rises to the top".

  10. American Pit Bull Latka says "I would really prefer the big marrow bone to the very big paycheck, but my biped mom says we could help lots of dogs with the money. And I'd get my bones too. If you'd like me to look ominous and scary while in the presence of greedy tycoons, I'm afraid the best I could do is a vigorous leg humping. But I'd bet tycoons don't enjoy leg humpings."
