Out of my reach?

On Friday President Obama tweeted that "if you don't let anyone tell you something is out of your reach, not only will you be great, this country will be great". I beg to differ... if you're a dachshund, no matter what anyone tells you, a lot of things are out of your reach. Hence my reply to the President through Pog's Twitter account:

Just in case he doesn't follow up, can any of you help?

How many lakes can you see?

In yesterday's post, I asked a trick question. Can you guess how many lakes there are in this photo?

It was a trick question because, from this angle, you can see three different sections of Lake Lugano that seem like two or even three distinct lakes. On top of that, you can see two little lakes that hardly look like lakes at all. The truth is you can only see three lakes.

Dachshund Bruno sent us the correct answer from his burrow in Chicago, Illinois with the help of his very special Mom, Christa, who's been reading our blog since its inception. Shortly afterwards, my British fur-friend Misaki also sent us the correct answer from her home in Essex. Misaki is a fluffy Alaskan Malamute puppy who enjoys walkies and belly rubs, much like the author of this blog.

Congratulations, Bruno and Misaki! You just won a custom-made doggy card from my Zazzle store. While the resident artist creates a new quirky design, please send an e-mail with your mailing address to bicontinental DOT dachshund AT gmail.com (I had to spell it like that because we get so much spam it's not funny).

Keep on wagging, everyone!

Motto della Croce

Today, our destination is a viewpoint known as the Hill of the Cross (Motto della Croce).

Due to the recent abundant snowfall, we decided to get a late start so that early morning hikers would break trail for us. Here I am, waddling in their snowshoe tracks.

The dome-shaped mountain below is Mount Bar, which I climbed last week.

Eventually, the snowshoe tracks we were following went off in the wrong direction, so Dachshund Daddy had to break trail and carry me to the top of the ridge... where we found ski tracks and I could waddle again.

Occasionally, I waddled away from the ski tracks to take in my surroundings.

Here's our destination and its namesake cross.

Thank you, Dachshund Daddy, for carrying my burrow all the way up the mountain!

Here's my winter s-nose (a snowy nose, as opposed to a summer s-nose, which is a sandy nose).

We stopped several times on the way down to take in the gorgeous view.

How many lakes can you see in the photo below? If you guess correctly, I'll send you a custom-made postcard from my Zazzle store!

Just in case you had any doubts... I'm the little engine that could!
