The Pied Piper of Goatdom

When you hike in Switzerland, there's never a shortage of excitement. Here I am, literally getting carried away as Mom and I cross paths with a herd of goats.

Have you heard of goats? Those cute creatures whose full name is Capra aegagrus hircus?

We often see a whole bunch of goats on Swiss trails, or even on mountain roads.

This particular bunch started following us, probably because they thought that I was a herding dog.

Or do you think I might be the pied piper of Goatdom?

Dachshund Daddy helped the goats refocus by reading them the original story of the Pied Piper of Hamelin.

  1. We miss seeing animals on the paths. In Southern Germany there were always cows wandering around on the streets and paths and in Northern Germany, the sheep. Goats are super cool but quite smelly! The only bad part about the animals is the poo they leave behind that we need to avoid.

  2. Hi Y'all!

My Humans used to have a goat, a Nubian. She lived and traveled with one of the performance horses. There are some great stories the Humans tell about her.

All goats aren't friendly, but perhaps they did smell you and think you were a herding dog! Or maybe it was just time for their milking and they were headed back to their barn. Since the lead goat was wearing a bell was there a herdsman somewhere nearby "sleepin' on the job"?

    Y'all come by now!

  4. What are you doing when you meet animals? Do you bark at them? Hope the goats will not follow your dad forever like the children in the piper story :o)
