I had to read the book again to find the section you were asking about LOL. I think the author means the women confess their grievances so that they can be released and put to rest with the needles. How does that sound? The end bits are rather misogynistic aren't they? The sentiment of another era. I suspect the Harajuku girls don't go for that much ;)
