Gotcha Day Anniversary

Ten years ago to this day, Tootsie waddled into our lives and changed our hearts forever. Our hearts expanded to include this lowdown tube of fur who was fierce and funny and obsessed with food, walkies, and cuddles.

Our first photograph together:

Dachshund Daddy promised Tootsie that he would carry her on walkies in her senior years. "One day, I will carry you everywhere." And he did. People in our town still think of us as the couple who carried their little dog everywhere.

When Tootsie passed away last year, two months into the global pandemic, our hearts were broken. They still are. To be a dog-less dog person is to know that you are less of yourself, for a time, but that you have been made a better self by your pup.

Dearest Tootsie, we send you all our love in the Great Beyond today on your Gotcha Day anniversary. And we send all our love to you, our friends.

Stay safe out there. It's a wild world.

Xo

Special Remembrance: Sweet Sir Yugi

It's hard to believe that our friend Sweet Sir Yugi passed away one year ago. We're thinking of Yugi and his Mom and sending lots of love.

Here's an encore showing of Dachshund Daddy's movie, "Be Like Yugi."

And here's another, "Shakespeare in the Bark."

Yugi gave Tootsie a frisbee -- smaller, for her size. About a month ago, after not touching it for a very long time, Tootsie picked it up and started playing with it.

We miss you, Yugi.

Love,
Tootsie & her humans

In Memoriam: Sweet Sir Yugi

Dear Hearts and Kindred Spirits,

With sadness, we share: Sweet Sir Yugi has traveled to the Rainbow Bridge.

Yugi was originally from Canada and divided his time between British Columbia and the Pacific Northwest of the United States. Here's sassy Sir Yugi as a ten week old puppy in early 2004.

Yugi visited us at Camp Idaho for Christmas, and we had a blast. After surviving cancer last summer, Yugi looked like a puppy again. He carried his Frisbee through the snow, talked, napped,

cuddled, and gazed adoringly at his super special Mom. Our hearts go out to her and to all who so loved Yugi. A very good dog. A great dog.

Yugi passed away after he got back to his home on the West Coast. Sweet Sir Yugi had not been feeling well, but he had rallied. He spent a lovely evening eating dinner and walking with his favorite people on December 27th. But Yugi woke up in the middle of the night and had to be rushed to the emergency vet.

Thank you all for the Power of the Paw when Yugi was not well. It made a big difference and helped him survive his cancer.

Among Yugi's many fine qualities was his love of dog sports, his love of the water, his sweetness, and his wonderful sense of humor: he brought me a hot dog costume for Christmas! Yugi's Mom is a penguin scientist, and Yugi spent a lot of time helping her out with her research, because with him she had the best Lab ever.

As some of you may remember, Dachshund Daddy created the Be Like Yugi video for Sweet Sir Yugi. We've been watching it a lot these days.

Also be sure to check out Yugi and my Shakespearean moment.

Sweet Sir Yugi, we miss you so much.

Run free in Heaven, Sweet Angel Yugi.

With love,
Tootsie

Rest in Peace, Dear Ester / Cara Ester, Riposa in Pace

Dear Hearts and Kindred Spirits,
Cari Amici Lettori,

This past Friday morning, my sweet Collie cousin Ester traveled across the rainbow bridge.
La nostra dolcissima Ester ci ha lasciati.

Aged 13, Ester lived a great life filled with cuddles and a whole lot of love.
Aveva 13 anni, passati in mezzo a tante coccole.

Ester loved her signature beach walkies.
Ester adorava le passeggiate sul mare.

Ester aged gracefully and her matronly beauty continued to shine through until the end.
Fino alla fine, Ester ha mantenuto intatta la sua bellezza.

Dear Ester, run free with Keisha and Daisy in the big meadow in the sky. You will be missed.
Carissima Ester, ci manchi tanto.
