Greatest Hits for the Holidays
With a SantaBear in Bozeman, Montana.
With holiday paraphenalia.
My holiday card available at my Bicontinental Dachshund Zazzle store, Tootsie's Shoppe.
The year Mom shoved my head through every wreath she could find in Switzerland.
It's an existential time of year.
Another wreath photo. Thanks, Mom.
Boxing Day. (And who is the bright person who included the bag of recycling there in the background? Tacky!)
My Italian greeting.
Happy holidays to you and yours.
Love from all of us,
Tootsie & her humans
P.s. We will post the winner of our great calendar giveaway on Tootsie Tuesday, tomorrow!

My 2015 Swiss Alps Calendar
Dear Fellow Waggers,
I'm proud to present my 2015 Swiss Alps Calendar!
Each photo was taken by my father during one of our wotten waven hikes.
This way, we get to share a slice of Swiss alpine gorgeousity every month.
And now... time for our calendar giveaway!
The first fur-friend or human reader who guesses the exact location where the cover photo was taken will win a copy of my 2015 calendar.
As usual, there are no geographic limitations and anyone can enter. The question is hard or else anyone could Google the answer, but here's a precious hint: the name of the mountain has to do with giving things away.
Too hard? I'm not an unreasonable dachshund. If no one guesses correctly by Monday, December 22, we will select the winner randomly out of all the fur-friends who leave a comment below.
I'm proud to present my 2015 Swiss Alps Calendar!
I personally hand-picked the most wag-inducing photos out of Dachshund Daddy's Swiss alpine photos collection. I'm only featured in the photo at the back of the calendar so that I don't steal the scene(ry) with my extreme cuteness.

My Ocean Magnet Post
Dear Furfriends and Humans:
Lest you think I am a spacey dachshund who does not follow through on her wags, I wanted to give you this update about my great magnet giveaway challenge from summer 2014.
I am remiss! I never followed up! In truth, all of you were close to guessing my location correctly, but the only dog -- or human? -- who almost guessed correctly posted with a name, Kipper, but no tracking address! So no award magnets were given.
Where was I? I was at Rockaway Beach along the Oregon Coast with Mom and Dachshund Daddy. All of you who guessed -- "you're at the beach!" -- were technically correct.
Here are the results:
Hannelei was second closest because she guessed southern Oregon.
And Bouncing Bertie was third closest because he thought it might be the Oregon Coast.
Here's a photo from the Oregon Coast near Tillamook (where there is a yummy cheese factory tour):
Love,
Tootsie
P.s. Mom says it is her fault, not mine, that she did not follow-up on the great magnet giveaway of 2014!

Matterhorn and Friends
By any measure, the Matterhorn is the most famous of all Swiss mountains. Nearby Monte Rosa is much higher, but it's the Matterhorn that made it to Disneyland and got painted on Swiss trains.
For years, Dachshund Daddy ignored Mom's standing request for a hiking trip to Zermatt, the Matterhorn's hometown...
For years, Dachshund Daddy ignored Mom's standing request for a hiking trip to Zermatt, the Matterhorn's hometown...
until last weekend, when he went on his own so he could hike to the top of 11,200' Oberrothorn to take photos for his 2015 calendar "Matterhorn and Friends".
Unless you're good friends with the local police, which means you were in kindergarden together, you can't drive to Zermatt.
You need to park in the town down the valley and take the train or catch a cab/minibus/helicopter/golf cart. Dachshund Daddy left the Dogship farther down the valley and rode his bicycle up to Zermatt so he wouldn't have to pay for parking and transportation.
On his way to the top of Oberrothorn, which translates to "upper red horn", DD met a puppy mountaineer named Zippo.
It was a fabulous day, and he took many, many great photos for his new calendar.
He also made a whole bunch of new friends who wanted to spend more time with him.
"Matterhorn and Friends" is already available from my Zazzle store if you would like to bring the Swiss Alps to your living room. Before you ask… yes, both Zippo and the sheep made it into the calendar.

Guess Where I Am!
The first furfriend who guesses correctly will receive one of my signature magnets from my Zazzle store.
Hint: Dachshund Daddy says I cannot give a hint, because the whole point is for you to guess. Mom thinks that is not fair, so maybe this next photo will help.
I hope you are all having a wagging summer.
Love,
Tootsie

How many lakes can you see?
In yesterday's post, I asked a trick question. Can you guess how many lakes there are in this photo?
It was a trick question because, from this angle, you can see three different sections of Lake Lugano that seem like two or even three distinct lakes. On top of that, you can see two little lakes that hardly look like lakes at all. The truth is you can only see three lakes.
Dachshund Bruno sent us the correct answer from his burrow in Chicago, Illinois with the help of his very special Mom, Christa, who's been reading our blog since its inception. Shortly afterwards, my British fur-friend Misaki also sent us the correct answer from her home in Essex. Misaki is a fluffy Alaskan Malamute puppy who enjoys walkies and belly rubs, much like the author of this blog.
Congratulations, Bruno and Misaki! You just won a custom-made doggy card from my Zazzle store. While the resident artist creates a new quirky design, please send an e-mail with your mailing address to bicontinental DOT dachshund AT gmail.com (I had to spell it like that because we get so much spam it's not funny).
Keep on wagging, everyone!

Doggy Highways
If teleportation was invented, we would no longer need to drive, and highways would exclusively cater to bicycles, pedestrians, horses, and dogs. Rumor has it Google may nail teleportation by the end of the fiscal year, and transportation agencies are already thinking ahead.
I was recently commissioned to propose a number of esthetically pleasing designs for doggy signage to the transportation agencies of various countries.
As much as I love cuddles, I admit that they may create congestion on shared roadways. For instance, a miniature dachshund getting cuddles by a number of road users may hinder traffic, which is why we need to warn cyclists and joggers.
The very presence of a dachshund may warrant a sign such as the following.
As you can see, these truly unique signs are featured on my "Very Dangerous American Dog" notebook series.
Back to dachshund-induced congestion... in certain situations, it may help to provide quantitative information about the distribution of the dachshunds, as in the fridge magnet below:
The Mexican Department of Transportation pointed out that, even after the uptake of teleport pads, some people may still wish to drive their cars just for fun. It makes sense, as the demand for oil will drop and gas will be cheaper than dog pee, which is why I sent this fridge magnet to Mexico City:
"Careful -- drive slowly -- sausage dogs." Concise, vivid, and right to the point. And I even figured out how to use the polite form of the imperative in Spanish. Hasta luego, amigos!

The Arnolfinis love to hike
Painted in 1434 in Bruges, Belgium, "The Arnolfini Couple" is one of the most popular paintings at London's National Gallery. If you listen to the BBC, you may have heard that Dachshund Daddy recently discovered this previously unknown version of "The Arnolfini Couple", which features my great-great-...-grandfather Zibibbo next to his fur-brother Baruffo.
Baruffo was a fluffy Brussels Griffon. According to the Daily Mail, Brussels Griffons are the descendants of a long line of Flanders Terriers bred to hunt rats.
My doggy family records confirm that Dachshund Zibibbo lived with Baruffo and the Arnolfinis in Lucca, Italy in the 1420s. Later, in the 1430s, they traveled to Bruges, Belgium, where Jan Van Eyck created their iconic portrait(s).
On their way from Italy to Belgium, the Arnolfinis and their doggies came through Switzerland and took a day off to hike to the top of Monte Lema, where the following photo was taken with Dachshund Zibibbo's digital camera.
Jean-Baptiste Lamarck would have posited that I owe my mouse-hunting skills to the training that Dachshund Zibibbo received from Baruffo the Brussels Griffon. Unfortunately, as my godson Bouncing Bertie would confirm, Mendel has already shown that acquired traits cannot be inherited. Too bad.
Before I fur-get... you can find the Arnolfinis, Baruffo, and Dachshund Zibibbo in Tootsie's Shoppe as part of my wotten waven "Dachshunds in Art" collection.

Have You Been a Good Dog This Year?
This is a card Dachshund Daddy made for Tootsie's Shoppe at Zazzle.
Immediately, I answer: yes! But then I realize it might be time for reflection. What makes a bad dog anyway? Have I been a good dog?
And then I thought, "Oh, no! Is it time for the annual crisis of the down low?" This is so last year.
Last year, you might remember, Mom shoved my head through all sorts of wreaths. She promised not to do it this year.

Tootsie and the Snowman
Here in Switzerland, with no Thanksgiving holiday, the Christmas and holiday decorations are already up along Via Stazione. That's a little disconcerting! Still, this latest design of mine shows that I'm serious about my Christmas card series. Seriously. Please take a look at the color version!
Do you like my whiskers?

Don't step on it
Driving safety and scooping etiquette are similar. That's because unscooped dog poop is like a gas pedal in a speed zone.
Drive safely and wag on with my latest savvy sausage wisdom!
And in case you're wondering... yes, they are called speed zones in the USA. The picture below is from the Department of Transportation website.
