A Good Summer!

We're back in Idaho! There is time to smell the flowers.

Time for conversation with family.

And time for airborn memories of our wotten-waven beach journey.

My friends, I hope you are having a good summer, too!

Love,
Tootsie

Sand Dunes

This is a black and white photograph of sand dunes on the Oregon Coast. You can see a deflation zone in the distance just before the beach and the Pacific Ocean. Wotten waven!

Murphy

On our wotten-waven journey, I met a senior long-haired dachshund named Murphy. Murphy is 19 years old!

I asked Murphy the secret to living a long life.

"My secret is my beach," Murphy said. "And my wonderful humans."

This is how I felt after walkies on Murphy's Beach.

Wags to meet you, Murphy!

Love,
Tootsie

Does New York City Need a Weiner?

To salvage his political career, New York City mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner might adopt a dachshund.

That way, Weiner could text as many pictures of his wiener as he wants. Lots of people would like to look at little wieners on their phones.

Dear Mr. Weiner: Stop sexting. Start petting your own wiener.

I know the name of the royal baby!

And I'd like to share it with you first!

The name of the royal baby is Tootsie.

I am the Royal Baby Tootsie!

P.s. Do you like my American flag tag?

Dear Mom and Dachshund Daddy,

Happy Wedding Anniversary! Remember the low down from the down low...

Keep it real; keep it kind.

Keep celebrating your differences.

Keep it beautiful.

Keep forging memories wherever we may journey! Wag on!

Oregon Coast!

Dear Bouncing Bertie, you were close! Olympic National Park was an excellent guess. As Jessica, Gretel, and Chester surmised, it's the Oregon coast!

An anonymous reader was somewhat critical of my leash. For the record, there are several reasons why my parents keep me leashed on Oregonian beaches:

1. to keep me from harassing racing the birds;
2. to keep me from getting blown away by the wind;
3. to keep me from getting whisked away by the waves;
4. to keep me from eating dead birds or dead fish or anything I can get my jaws on.

Frankly, I think they keep me on leash so they don't get lost.

Where on Earth?

Dear Readers,

This week I'm visiting a very special place!

Can you guess where I am in the photo above?

Yours wagfully,

Ears Are Very Important

Thanks for all your suggestions to alleviate wowwy from yesterday's post. Mom really appreciates it. Here's a picture of me at the beach in Italy last year. I hope my parental units take me to the beach this year!

When Worry Overcomes Wags

Grandpa and Dachshund Daddy say it would be really good for Mom to STOP WORRYING. I agree.

Mom is very good at worrying wowwying. (For those who know I pronounce my "r's" as "w's," you'll know that I pronounce "worry" as "wowwy.")

Mom thinks that everything might go to hell in a hand basket if she stops wowwying. Yes, it's all about being present, living now, and not being freaked out. Life unfolds. And, really, Mom is grateful that after some tough and humbling years, life feels settled and rather lovely.

So what if she struggles to speak Italian in southern Switzerland and needs her husband's help? So what if some of her choices seem whackadoo in retrospect? So what if she cannot start the chainsaw on her own in Idaho and needs Grandpa's help? So what if the latest skirt she bought on the Internet makes her look as if she is a bathtub?

Mom feels lucky and blessed. "You're a big part of that, Toots," she says. (A wag; a wag!) And yet, she keeps wowwying.

My questions, dear readers: Do you wowwy? What helps you to stop wowwying? Mom has tried lots of different approaches. Do you have any helpful tips?

Thanks for sharing!

Love,
Tootsie

Happy Fourth in Borgosesia

Dachshund Daddy reports that the Italian alpine town of Borgosesia is organizing a special Fourth of July celebration with hamburgers, hot dogs, homemade gelatos, horseback riding, and live music with the Italian country band Lake47.

The event is hosted by Marissa Frost, originally from California and a longtime resident of the Valsesia area of northwestern Italy. Marissa is a cultural ambassador to the local community and often organizes American-themed events as well as English-language programs for children.

We won't be able to attend the Fourth of July event in Italy (Tootsie and Mom are in America and Dachshund Daddy is in Switzerland), but we look forward to participating in future events. Dachshund Daddy has heard great things about Marissa's yummy American Thanksgiving dinners!

Jack and Bingo are big fans of culinary events and wish you all a Happy Fourth! We do, too.

Happy Fourth!

Happytails Fur Butter and Sleepytime Tonic: VITACOST Pet Product Review

This post is a product review of HAPPYTAILS FUR BUTTER available from the online retailer Vitacost. FUR BUTTER is for use following your dog's regular shampoo. It's a spa treatment for doggies!

Tootsie's Mom here: This product is really lovely! I washed Tootsie and then applied this butter almost like a spa treatment after her regular shampoo. It smells beautiful but not too aromatic. It's perfect for a little down low doggy.

The FUR BUTTER is super easy to apply and spreads on very nicely. I just buttered up my whole little sausage dog. Tootsie did great with the extra treatment after her regular shampoo, too.

I let the FUR BUTTER sit on her fur for a while (the directions say 5-10 minutes, but we didn't quite make it that long). And then the FUR BUTTER washes easily off.

Again, FUR BUTTER smells great! And best of all: Tootsie's fur is softer than ever before. Plus she seems to be itching a lot less. After our last intercontinental flight, I noticed that Tootsie's fur and skin seemed awfully dry and flaky. It's hard to keep her hydrated with such long travel. Since using the FUR BUTTER, though, she has stopped scratching her back.

Here is Tootsie all buttered up with FUR BUTTER.

And here is Tootsie all dried off after her spa treatment.

Even Grandpa says, "Tootsie's fur feels extra soft and luxurious!" Tootsie ran around after her bath and then snuggled in for a rest.

Vitacost -- a discount store to "take the cost out of healthy living" -- also sent us this HAPPYTAILS SLEEPYTIME TONIC for Truffle to try. I tried the tonic on Truffle, because he's really aging and starts to squeak. It's hard to tell, sometimes, if he's sore and aching or if he's just betwixted and between. Either way, Truffle squeaks.

The SLEEPYTIME TONIC really seemed to help calm Truffle down.

Truffle loves the taste. He smacks his lips when you drop the liquid into his mouth. I didn't have any problem squeezing the tonic directly directly into his mouth.

I'll keep trying it this week, but I notice the first few days that the SLEEPYTIME TONIC seems to help him feel calmer.

Thank you, VITACOST, for letting us review these products! Please visit their online store.

Tootsie's Gotcha Day!

It's Tootsie's Gotcha Day! We love you, our little sausage friend.
Love,
Mom & Dachshund Daddy

Today, Mom says I can read all I want. This is one of Mom's most-favorite book series.

Today, Mom says I can hunt all I want.

Today, Mom says I can air hump Truffle, but not all I want.

But Today, Mom says I can visit with Truffle all I want.

Today, Mom says I can burrow all I want.

Today, I bet Mom is going to take me on some very special walkies, too! So today is basically like every other day, except it's an extra-special day because of you. Thank you, all, for being a special part of my down low life.
