Il Venticinque Aprile

Today, our neighboring country of Italy enjoys a national holiday to commemorate the end of the Nazi occupation at the end of World War II. This graffiti at an abandoned checkpoint on the Swiss-Italian border commemorates all those who lost their lives in WWII.

"Honor to those who fell for their country
25 April forever."
[Anyone know what the symbol means?
We're concerned the symbol may have negative overtones.]

In southern Switzerland, the 25th of April is notorious for terrible traffic, because all the wealthy Italians who have stashed worldly possessions, including gold, in Switzerland come here to check on it. It's amazing how neighboring countries relate to the same day in different ways.

  1. No we don't know what that symbol means. But we HOPE it's nothing nasty!

No idea on the symbol, but the comment about the different views on the holiday is very amusing. Avoid the traffic, Tootsie & family! Enjoy a hike instead! Wags.

  4. Interesting that there are enough wealthy Italians checking gold to cause a traffic jam! Perhaps the Italian tax authorities could position themselves by the border and log the number plates...
I have no idea what the symbol means either.
    Cheers,

  6. Hi Y'all,

The Celtic circles were protective boundaries not to be crossed by enemies. The part of the arrow inside of the circle looks like part of the lightning bolt worn for power by Zeus...or half of the symbol worn by the SS...and the arrow to symbolize the path of Satan driven out of the protective boundaries...???

Just a wild guess based on the translation of the inscription...

    Y'all come by now,
